The sun shone, the rain clouds stayed away, the marquee was erected, the barbecues dusted off and loads off boats turned up, all the ingredients for a super day.
First on the agenda was the Boat Dressing Competition, and what a sight they looked. After a tough decision, Philanderer won with 2nd Chance second and Bilbo Baggins third.
This was followed by a short break for the late risers to
have their breakfast. While Heather handed out this years Children’s Competition,
and the Conundrums for the adults. The children had to name different parts
of a boat, and the conundrum answers were all to do with birds, that got the
grey matter working overtime.
In the first children’s category Toby Stanton (Helden’s Delight) came first
with Max Woolmer (Chloe II) second. In the second children’s category Sam
Woolmer (Chloe II) came first .
The Conundrum competition was won by Mibaybe, followed by
John Bishop with Chloe II / Orders IV taking third place.
Next on the agenda was the Blind Dinghy Rowing competition. Some crews did
well, some crews had a close inspection of the river banks and some went round
in circles. To think some off the navigators go tidal!!! The champions were
Bill and Jamie Order (Jusluvitt), followed by Chris Winter and Hardy Clint,
third were Steve and Jenny Cross (Crosby). Then came Paddle Across The River.
I am sure the sailboard was greased as every one ended up in the river. The
fastest was Bradley Gould (Jabrad), second was Tracy Whitehead (Nesta), third
was Dave Hansel( Moppett). Later in the day came The Round The Island Dinghy
Race. This year the race was well attended with most crews getting soaked
on their lap around the island. After a well fought finish the gold medals
went to Steve and Amy Cross (Crosby) , silver medals to Dave and Gavin Hansell
(Moppett), Bronze to John Jones (Ateala) Nigel and Toby Stanton (Helden’s
Delight). Also during the day was the Volleyball competition with six teams
entered. The first round was a straight knockout, the second round the three
surviving teams played each other. Luckily there were no injuries, no red
cards and no pitch invasions and the eventual champions were Roy Farman’s
team. By now the day was moving on so the BBQ.S were lit and the music started
in the marquee. After everyone had wined and dined themselves the evening
entertainment started. The cherished Gold, Silver and Bronze medals were awarded
to the winners of the days events, and a karaoke contest between two teams
ensued. Not quite sure who reigned as champions, but all enjoyed themselves,
the evening ended up with a general sing along, nearly all took part. All
that is left to say is that without the terrific attendance from the club
members, some who drove, some that came in their caravan, but mostly in boats,
this day would not have been the success that it was. So on behalf of your
Committee, thanks to all that turned up and a big thank you to all that helped
out on the day, may next years Fun Day be even better.
