The afternoon saw boats arriving from near & far (“the hardy ones”!!), although weather conditions were not ideal, with a stiff breeze threatening all day.  This for the first social event of our new boating season following crane-in.

The committee (plus helpers) prepared the hall for the evening, with fingers crossed, as this was to be a new venture for the club.  The village hall at Lechlade proved to be a wonderful venue for cabaret, or any club function (maybe not for indoor barbecues!!).  The catering & stage facilities were superb, these were to be used to their best advantage by the committee for the evening.

The food for the night had been organised from the local “chippy” & turned out to be first class, which is always a good start to any event. By 7-30 p.m., the hall was buzzing with club members, approx. 90 attended (we think). Food was soon being ferried by “the Chris Winter Haulage Co.”  with Bob & Den  riding “shotgun”. Three trips later, loaves & fishes had been distributed to all & sundry!!  A small intermission allowed our Commodore to draw raffle prizes for adults & the children and introduce the new season.

8.45 p.m. saw the beginning of our entertainment.

Steve Memo

Proved to be all he had been recommended to be, his singing, versatility & costume changes were superb. The show continued for about 3 hours.

Various well known artists were faithfully recreated including:

“Elvis Presley”, “Roy Orbison”, “Jimmy Cricket”, “Tom Jones”

Finishing with a superb rendering of “Tina Turner”  This to the great  embarrassment of some of our male members!!

The only complaint heard all evening was from Jill Hill, who complained that “Elvis” had not sung to her personally!

A great night, & a super start to another season.

MAYBE WE’LL DO IT AGAIN SOMETIME??
